Shank – The Movie & Soundtrack

Over the last 5 years there has been a boom in UK movies documenting Inner City Life. With the likes of Bullet Boy, Life & Lyrics, Rollin With The Nines, Kidulthood, Adulthood, Harry Brown and most recently 1Day all gaining critical acclaim, the market seems to be wide open for these sort of films.

The latest addition to this batch is ‘Shank’. The film is set in the 2015 and sees the likes of Adam Deacon (Kidulthood, Adulthood, The Bill, Dubplate Drama) and Grime icon Bashy portray a tale of post apocalyptic London, where gangs have taken control of the streets.

The soundtrack features a full list of high profile grime names such as Skepta, Bashy, Tinchy Stryder, Newham Generals, Tinie Tempah and Roll Deep to name a few.

The Movie is set to hit cinemas on March 26th……… Lookout for this!!!!!!

Free Downloads – Xmas 2009 Round Up

Christmas 2009 was a busy period for artists in the grime scene. with many artists eager to give a free gift away to loyal fans, it can only be helping the growth of the scene. I have named a few artists and they’re christmas releases, so their efforts were not forgotten in 2010.

First up we have Dagenham veteran Dogzilla. famous for his very cockney rhyming style and discovering arguably one of the greatest ever UK lyricists Devlin, Dogzilla has been a very busy man leading up to christmas and he has dropped   ‘A Dog Is For Life, Not Just For Christmas’.  Featuring production from Mr Slash, Danny Weed and Rachet amongst others, this release is a definite download for all Outtakers fans.

Next up we have Mr Snowman. Mr Snowman is a well known producer and remixer within the Grime Scene and this christmas he has given fans and emcees alike a real treat. ‘Back On The Map’ is an exclusive free download release which consists of 101 beats!!!! yeah you heard rite 101 free beats. download it and check it out.

Now we have Merky Ace. Merky Ace is an emcee that defines the word Hard-work, with countless free downloads to his name ‘Grime’ is his latest release which came out over the Christmas period.

Last but not least we have Grime Forum’s free pressie for fans. Grime Forum is arguably the biggest website in the Grime Scene and it has given not only so much to the scene but it is also a personal inspiration as to why i started Road Journal. ‘Wrapped 2009’ is their free Mix CD which features the cream of the grime scene including Scorcher, J2k, Skepta, Tinchy Stryder and Dot rotten.

All of these releases can be downloaded by clicking on the picture of choice.

Dot rotten – uncrowned king of 09?

After releasing ‘S.O.O.N’ pre-album in late 2009 nobody (Including myself) would have expecting another release so soon after.

‘Extra Attention’ is Dot Rotten’s official underground LP and if he has not already cemented himself as the next big thing, then after this release that goal will surely be accomplished.

Featuring Brutal, Griminal, Double S, Ice Kid and Mz Bratt amongst others, ‘Extra Attention’ is one of the best releases set for 2010.

With strong tracks and production courtesy of Dot Rotten himself, this release is the latest in a line of CD’s in a spectacularly short amount of time.

Terror Danjah – Hardrive Compilation

TERROR DANJAH PRESENTS…

‘Hardrive – The Compilation’

(Aftershock Recordings)

Terror Danjah is one of the pioneers of the Grime scene and a true champion for talent outside the big capital. This double disc serving features his latest and finest work to date. Featuring the likes of Ghetto, Griminal, Bruza, Mz Bratt, Chipmunk, Double S, Fumin and P-money to name a few, this compilation was always going to have to live up to its Big Bill. Similar to watching the David Haye V Goliath bout, I was hoping the big hits were going to last the distance and not be prematurely ended in the first couple of rounds.

Tracks such as Griminal’s ‘Cant Be’ and Fumin’s ‘Just Realize’ landed sweet right hooks to the eardrums but ironically it was classics such as ‘Cockback’ by Crazy Titch, Riko, Hyper MC & D Double E and ‘Zumpi Hunter’ by Wiley which enforced the vicious blows. The only bad thing i can say about this release is it is not necessarily a true representation of the finest talent in the scene. There are a few names missing and although listeners are treated to 160 mins of pure grime, maybe it could have been filtered to take away some below par tracks. Good value for price!

2009’s big question – Griminal & Mz bratt ‘are they arent they’

Two Of the biggest up and coming artists within the grime scene have been recently stiring up the rumor mill.

Griminal & Mz Bratt are featured heavily in both of their brand new videos and it has led to speculation that the two are dating or as it’s better known as these days “Doin a ting”.

In Mz Bratt’s latest single which is ironically entitled ‘I Like You’ and features Sadie Ama. Griminal can be seen with Mz Bratt engaging in a flirtatious manner.

In Griminal’s latest single entitled ‘Invincible’. Mz Bratt can be seen acting as his steamy girlfriend in a video that reminded me highly of Craig David’s ‘Fill Me In’ single.

Whether it’s a purposeful story that was created by their PR companies/managers or its the real deal it has definitely been a topic of intrest.

Maniac & Snoopy Montana get 32 years!!!!!

On December 4th 2009 Maniac, arguably the brightest & best producer in the grime scene was sentenced to 14 years in prison for his part in a conspiracy to murder charge which involved his pregnant ex-lover.

Maniac is known best for tracks such as ‘Kidulthood to Adulthood’ by bashy, ‘Mainstream Money’ by Tinchy Stryder, ‘Inna Di Ghetto’ by Wretch 32 & Ghetto, ‘Grime kid’ by wiley and countless other grime anthems.

Brandon 'Maniac' Jolie

Maniac who’s real name is Brandon Jolie was given a 14 year sentence after he allegedly bought his 15 year old ex-lover to Islington where Snoopy Montana who’s real name is Kingsley Ogundele was awaiting and attacked her by hitting a metal pole over her head, kicking her and throwing her in the water all while  she was saying “Stop!! I’m Pregnant”. A passerby saved the young girl who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Snoopy Montana, who appeared on the Tim Westwood show as well as many other big radio shows such as cameo got 18 years for his part in the crime.

Kingsley 'Snoopy Montana' Ogundele

It is  great shame that through a moment of calculated madness the scene has lost two of their best up and coming musicians.

Ghetts – Skadoosh!!!!!

Ghetts is well and truly back.  After releasing ‘Does It Now’, he has been building up momentum for his ‘Calm Before The Storm’ Mix CD which is set to be one of the biggest releases of 2010.

With no set date on the release of that mix-tape we will have to rely on tasters to judge whether or not the mix-tape will be a success.

‘Skadoosh’ is the latest single to be released by Ghetts and it features Newcomer Maxsta and Dolla Da Dustman. with guest cameos in the video from Griminal, Devlin and Mz Bratt it is no wonder it is currently the talk of the Grime scene.

There’s a new word in town and that word is SKADOOSH!!!
